We shared all our VE Day plans with the charity’s long-time supporter Dame Vera Lynn who was already the Forces Sweetheart when were founded in 1944. She has a special message and special memories to share with you all ahead of tomorrow:
“Hello everyone, I would just like to wish you all well on this very special day. I was in the garden with my parents and grandparents when the news came through, and I think we celebrated with tea and cake! We might have had a glass of sherry after though.
I would also like to say to all those people who are self-isolating that my thoughts are with you, and we can all have a ‘cheers’ even if it’s only with a cup of tea or lemonade!”
