The Soldiers’ Charity is pleased to announce that registration for our flagship event, The Frontline Walk, is now open. We’re welcoming both new and returning event participants to join us next October, on one of two weekends, for a fantastic walk in history. The 100km walks follow in the footsteps of those who fought for our freedom in WWI or WWII whilst supporting the soldiers and veterans of today.
2019 is a special year for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. It is the 75th anniversary since we were founded in 1944 as the Army Benevolent Fund. It also marks 80 years since the start of the Second World War – another milestone in history we must not forget.
For these reasons, we’re mixing up The Frontline Walk 2019 and offering our usual route along the Western Front, as well as a new 100km walk, The Frontline Walk: The Normandy Beaches.
The Frontline Walk: The Western Front will see you walk past the iconic and emotive memorials and cemeteries found on the Western Front. Starting at the Lochnagar Crater, the largest man-made mine crater on the Somme battlefields, and finishing at the Menin Gate, with the poignant Ceremony of the Last Post.
The Normandy Beaches takes in the coastline and will pass the infamous beaches of the Normandy landings, including Utah, Omaha and Sword Beaches, finishing at Pegasus Bridge.
