Six Army Reservists aiming to be the first British team to complete a full traverse of Antarctica have completed their final training. Lou, Ollie, Al, Alex, Chris and Jamie will be raising money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity as they set out for their 1,100mile expedition next month. The training camp assessed fitness, strength and power as they were taken through their paces. They will need to consume 6,500 calories every day and are building mass in the final few weeks before they leave.
Expedition leader Lou Rudd said: “Getting to the South Pole will be a mixture of fitness, preparedness and a good dose of luck. You never know what Antarctica will throw at you but the team is strong and as ready as we’ll ever be.”
The final leg of their journey will pay tribute to Henry Worsley, a former expedition partner of Lou’s, who sadly lost his life on his own Polar expedition last year. To read more about the epic SPEAR17 journey, visit www.spear17.org
