The Army Benevolent Fund is delighted to award a £30,000 grant to the charity, Revitalise Respite Holidays, to fund respite breaks for disabled former soldiers and their carers.

While many of us are enjoying or looking forward to a holiday this summer, lack of affordability and accessibility means a well-earned break is out of reach for most disabled former soldiers and their carers.

Revitalise provides fully accessible respite breaks for disabled adults. A team of expert, trained staff including registered nurses offer holiday experiences combined with expert care to people with conditions including Motor Neurone disease,  Alzheimer’s, and other mobility issues.

Our donation will help fund relaxing breaks for former soldiers living with physical or mental health challenges, such as PTSD or injuries sustained in service at a Revitalise holiday centre. Its centres in Essex, and Southport offer 24-hour care, personal support and a variety of activities designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for all. Rooms are fully accessible, with specialised equipment to support mobility.

For many carers, this is their first opportunity to rest and re-charge, which is vital to prevent them reaching breaking point. For their loved ones, the holiday is a chance to connect with other veterans and disabled people.  Revitalise creates opportunities for guests to share their experiences and build camaraderie during their stay, with the support of its volunteers.

Janine Tregelles CBE, CEO, Revitalise, said:

“We are enormously grateful to the Army Benevolent Fund for their support over many years and offer our congratulations on achieving your 80th anniversary. In 2024, thanks to your generous grant, up to 30 Army disabled veterans and their carers or family members will receive financial support to take a respite holiday at our centres in Southport and Chigwell.”

Brigadier (Ret’d) Peter Monteith, Chief Operating Officer, Army Benevolent Fund said:

“Supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of soldiers, former soldiers and their families is central to our work at the Army Benevolent Fund. We are proud to award this grant to Revitalise Respite Holidays, which offers a lifeline of support and a well-deserved break for disabled veterans and their carers.”
