Our charity has supported SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, with two grants totalling £230,000 towards SSAFA’s casework and Stepping Stone Home.
For nearly 75 years, we have had a special relationship with SSAFA. Our first grant was made to SSAFA in 1945. We awarded the charity a £25,000 grant to go towards helping the many serving personnel who had returned from World War Two, and their families.
Decades later, we continue to support SSAFA with two grants totalling £230,000. This funding will enhance SSAFA’s support of the Army Family through its casework service and Stepping Stone Home, Gildea House provision for one year, commencing July 2021.
SSAFA’s casework service offers welfare advice and support to the Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans and their families.
In 2020, 14,121 cases were recorded, of which 8,790 (62%) related to the Army Family. A total of 10,651 face-to-face and virtual visits took place, of which 6,829 (64%) related to the Army Family.
We also support SSAFA’s Stepping Stone Home, Gildea House. The refuge provides safety for women and children with a military connection, many of whom are survivors of domestic abuse, while working to increase their confidence levels and empowering them to lead dignified and independent lives.
Sir Andrew Gregory, CEO at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, said: “These two exceptionally generous donations from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity will allow SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity to continue to provide vital support to our current and former members of the British Army and their families.
“We continue to adapt our services to meet the evolving needs of our clients in order to build their independence and dignity. SSAFA is proud to be able to provide that in partnership with ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and are extremely grateful for their contributions.”
