A former Army Officer has set herself her toughest test yet. Lizzie Rosewell has created the personal challenge, In the Footsteps of the Fallen, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Over the last few years, Lizzie has started running marathons and ultra-marathons, with 112 miles being her longest so far. Lizzie, wife and mother of two, comments that ‘long distance running has also allowed me to rediscover myself following the birth of my two children and has given me an outlet to be me and not just Isaac and Emma’s Mum!’.
Lizzie’s challenge will start with the Paris Marathon on 8th April 2018, before running back to London following the lines of the Western Front and visiting many of the major battlefields and memorial sites of WWI. She will finish two weeks later by running the London Marathon on 22nd April. The route, which she is still finalising, will be around 360 miles in total, running the equivalent of a marathon a day for 15 days! The gruelling challenge will be made harder for the fact that Lizzie will also be carrying her own kit and camping most evenings.
Speaking about her decision to select us as her chosen charity, Lizzie said: “I will be raising money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity because it is a charity that, as a former Army Officer, is very close to my heart. 100 years on from the “War to end all Wars”, our Army continues to be active all over the world and The Soldiers’ Charity does wonderful work in helping our serving soldiers, veterans and their families when they need it most.”
