FirstLight Trust is a veteran led charity that aims to offer support to veterans as they transition into civilian life. We recently gave FirstLight Trust a grant of £20,000 towards support worker costs at their Lancaster Hub.
Those leaving the Armed Forces can find adjusting to civilian life difficult. FirstLight Trust provide easily accessible support at cafes and centres across the UK where veterans can simply walk in and be offered community based support.
Services FirstLight Trust offer include help with:
- Housing
- Benefits
- Support with making appointments
- Going to the GP and getting the right medical treatment
- Sorting out debt problems
- Making sure you have the right pensions and allowances
- Rehabilitation and support for drug and alcohol problems
- Volunteering work
- Writing CVs and getting back to work
FirstLight Trust work with organisations such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, local housing associations, The Royal British Legion, SSAFA, probation, Help for Heroes and Age UK, to ensure their veterans are getting the best help available to them.
Dorinda Wolfe Murray from FirstLight Trust, said “The support that ABF The Soldiers’ Charity gives us makes such a difference. This grant enables us to support veterans within their community in Lancaster in a place and way that makes a real difference. Without the support of organisations like The Solders’ Charity we simply would be unable to carry out our work.”
Brigadier (Ret’d) Robin Bacon, Chief of Staff, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity comments: “FirstLight Trust support our veterans across the UK with an array of cafes and centres. This is vital in helping them transition into civilian life. The grant we gave shows our appreciation of the work they do”.
