Deadlines & Frontlines – A Talk by Giles Trendle
Join us as Giles Trendle talks about his experience as a journalist in the Middle East – a part of the world considered as the most difficult and dangerous region for journalists to operate in; the many challenges of covering the region; the deeper issues and root causes that lie beneath some of the everyday conflict; and the missed opportunities and future hopes of peace in the region.
The talk includes the story of the rise of Al Jazeera, the 24/7 news channel based in the region; first-hand accounts of the Lebanese civil war, the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the Israel-Palestinian conflict; and Britain’s historical role in the Middle East. This is a talk based on direct experience and deep knowledge of the Middle East, offering unique insights into a region too often dismissed as complex and forlorn.
